Designing the Nation: Olympics, Authority and Unrest

Fri, 29 Jun, 2012 14:30 - 16:00

The events of the Mexico 68 Olympics tell a fascinating tale of a nation struggling to represent itself to the rest of the world, while unable to quell dissatisfaction among its own population.

This panel discussion considers the gap between the intentions of the Olympic organisers in promoting Britain to the world and the backdrop of the crisis of capitalism, cuts and social unrest.

Speakers include architect John Adams, who worked on the Mexico 68 Olympic design and Professor Valerie Fraser who will discuss the student movement.

Part of the Contested Games: Mexico 68's Olympics Design Revolution exhibition programme.

Location: Arts Exchange
Colchester Campus
