The Essex Fund - supporting students

The Essex Fund was set up in 2002 to support projects which focus on students. Since then, donations from over 1,300 alumni have allowed us to give over £500,000 to:

  • bursaries for sport and overseas study
  • visual and performing arts projects, including East 15 Acting School
  • student societies and
  • community projects.

Formerly known as the Alumni Fund, the Essex Fund provides opportunities for students which they might not otherwise have. It focuses on two streams:

  • The Essex Experience & Essentials - enhancing the student experience at Essex through projects in sports, arts, societies or student-led academic events
  • The Essex Fund Scholarships - providing scholarships across all degrees levels

We invite all areas of the university to apply to the fund each year. A committee considers all the applications. The committee is chaired by our Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jules Pretty, and consists of representatives of the Alumni office as well as some of our current donors. They choose projects which will have the greatest benefit for the greatest number.
